Boxy Crocodile in Black and Gilt - 60s Fun!

Large boxy black crocodile skin handbag from the 1960s.  This is a funky shape for the day - and it really would function in that way.  It's roomy and robust and would carry most essentials!

I've put this bag into the collection because it's different.  The tall box shape of the bag definitely lends itself to daytime usage.  There are three quite distinct sections to the bag which are closed very securely with a double flap top with press stud fittings to each side, with a strap over which is closed with a substantial gilt ring clasp.  This fits through a 'letter box' opening and you turn it down to close.

The fittings are in excellent condition as are the four horseshoe shaped rings to which the handles are attachted.  The back and front panels are in crocodile skin as is the strap over the top.  However the two handles, the side and bottom panels are all in mock croc.  The bag measures 26 cms/10.25" across, 22 cms/8.75" high and is 12 cms/5" across the widest point.  The handles measure 38.5 cms/15" from where they are attached to the gilt fittings.

Inside the reverse of the top flaps and the top edges of the interior are in black calf and then the rest is in a 'patent look' finish.  Either side of the bag there are two plain sections which can be closed with the press stud.  The middle section has one zipped pocket and one open.

The whole thing is in great condition and would be great for any day out!
